Naked Man with a Baby, Shoplifting and Car Burglaries Galore and ‘Raising Arizona’ in Gilroy

This roundup of Gilroy Police activities for the past two weeks also includes a stolen feeding tube and a shoplifter who stole 16 packs of multi-colored socks, some pliers, some mini-flashlights, some toothpicks and a dreamcatcher necklace.

July 28

9 p.m. – A white 1998 Ford Contour was reported stolen from outside a home on Monte Bello Drive.

1:23 a.m. – Police pulled over a gray Dodge station wagon for a traffic infraction at the intersection of Forest and Martin streets and determined that the driver, a 37-year-old Hispanic man, was intoxicated. He was arrested on suspicion of driving under the influence and driving without a license. He was cited and released at the scene.

4:20 a.m. – Sometime between 2:30 p.m. July 27 and 4 a.m. on July 29, someone sprayed a fire extinguisher into an unlocked window of Gaylord Containers at 6400 Jamieson Way. Police collected evidence and submitted it to the Santa Clara County Crime Lab.

6:42 p.m. – An iPad was found in a park on Hanna Street and turned into police.

9 p.m. – Someone broken into a blue Honda Accord on Monte Bello Drive and caused $1,400 in damage to the windows and steering column in an attempt to steal the car, according to a report.

July 30

7:35 a.m. – A burgundy 1995 Honda Accord was reported stolen from Carmel Street. The car was locked at the time, according to its owner.

8:39 a.m. – A green 1996 Honda Accord was reported stolen from Fourth Street. The car has an “Obama” sticker on the upper left corner of the trunk and an “Equality” sticker on the upper right hand corner of the trunk.

6 p.m. – Someone broke into the side yard of a business on Welburn Ave. and stole $1,200 worth of materials, including wires, metals, fencing, a blow gun paint sprayer and heavy duty power cords.

10:17 p.m. – A man went to the home on West Eighth St. and struck its front door with a hammer before hitting a female resident with the hammer in the hand. The suspect, who was known to the resident, fled the scene and was not found, police said.

July 31

2:15 p.m. – Someone broke into a blue Toyota sedan and stole a large suitcase full of clothing valued at $1,000, as well a small suitcase full of clothing, two backpacks, a Samsung tablet and some medication. The stolen items were valued at a total of $2,700, and the burglars also caused $1,000 in damage to the car by smashing the rear and passenger’s side window.

2:43 p.m. – Two 19-year-old men were arrested on suspicion of petty theft after stealing a V-neck t-shirt, a sweater, a t-shirt and a dress shirt from a store on Camino Arroyo at the Gilroy Outlets, police said. The clothing was valued at around $150.

3:30 p.m. – A white Ford Explorer was broken into on Arroyo Circle at the Gilroy Outlets and more than $800 worth of items was stolen, including an iPhone, a camera and two backpacks.

6:30 p.m. – A woman was caught trying to steal a number of items from the Super Walmart on Camino Arroyo at the Gilroy Outlets, including 16 packs of multi-colored socks, some pliers, some mini-flashlights, some toothpicks and a dreamcatcher necklace.

Aug. 1

1:30 p.m. – Someone broken into a 1997 black Honda Civic on Arroyo Circle at the Gilroy Outlets and stole a $1,000 camera and a paid of sandals and high heels. The items were valued at $1,050.

Aug. 2

2 a.m. – When police tried to pull over a 2008 black Scion for a traffic violation on Murray Ave., the driver reportedly sped off and went into a mobile home park, eventually smashing into a police car. The driver, a 26-year-old man, was arrested on suspicion of felony evading police. During the chase, a 41-year-old passenger in the car jumped out and fled on foot. Police later found him in a nearby house and arrested him on suspicion of resisting arrest and for a felony warrant.

10:20 a.m. – Police received a report that a naked man was seen swinging a baby around in a dangerous way on Monterey Street. Police went to the scene and arrested the man on suspicion of possession of a controlled substance and resisting arrest.

3:50 p.m. – Police arrested a man on suspicion of stealing nearly $1,500 worth of sterling silver jewelry from a shop on Monterey Street.

5:54 p.m. – A woman reported that she lost her debit card at Target on Camino Arroyo at the Gilroy Outlets and it was later used to buy $1 worth of gas at the Shell gas station and $13 worth of food at Panera Bread.

Aug. 3

1:16 p.m. – A 26-year-old man was caught trying to steal a 36-pack and a 15-pack of Bud Light and $16 worth of diapers at the Walmart on Camino Arroyo at the Gilroy Outlets.

5:10 p.m. – A 2010 silver Toyota was broken into on Arroyo Circle at the Gilroy Outlets and an $800 Samsung Galaxy phone was stolen, along with a wallet containing a driver’s license and credit cards.

5:10 p.m. – A 2014 gray Jeep was broken into on Arroyo Circle at the Gilroy Outlets and a two bags containing $500 worth of Polo clothing, along with a $30 camera, a $300 camera lens, a $500 camcorder and $75 headphones were stolen.

8:35 p.m. – A 42-year-old man was arrested on suspicion of attempted carjacking and robbery when he jumped into a 2005 Dodge Ram and demanded that its owner give him the keys. The carjacker was trying to start the truck when police arrived.

10:56 p.m. – Police were called to a fight between two men on Church Street in which one man stabbed the other with a knife. The suspect fled the scene on foot and the victim was taken to the hospital with minor injuries.

Aug. 4

5:30 p.m. – The owner of a 2004 Ford Explorer reported that his SUV was broken into while parked in the Denny’s lot and that two medical devices – a suctioning device and a feeding tube – were stolen. Each item was valued at $1,000.

Aug. 5

7:35 p.m. – A 2013 green Ford Explorer was broken into at the Gilroy Outlets and two backpacks, each containing a laptop, business cards, external hard drives, Hong Kong passports and $700 on foreign currency, were stolen.

Aug. 6

1:26 p.m. – A 55-year-old man was arrested for public intoxication after causing a disturbance at the Gilroy Library.

1:30 p.m. – A resident of Isabella Way reported that someone stole a $250 teapot and a $100 creamer from her room.

Aug. 8

12:45 p.m. – Police received a report that a 2013 green Ford rental car was broken into in the parking lot at the Gilroy Outlets. A $3,500 laptop, along with $700 in cash, a $500 camera, a $100 backpack and several Norwegian passports were stolen.

Aug. 9

10 p.m. – Someone siphoned 100 gallons of diesel fuel from a semi-trailer truck parked in the 5000 block of Travel Park Circle. The fuel was valued at $400.

Aug. 10

3 p.m. – Someone stolen more than $1,100 worth of perfumes from a store on Renz Lane at the Gilroy Outlets.

4:38 p.m. – Someone stole more than $4,700 worth of Tommy Hilfiger shirts from the Tommy Hilfiger store at the Gilroy Outlets on Arroyo Circle.

Aug. 11

1:13 p.m. – A man exposed his penis inside the Nike Store at the Gilroy Outlets on Arroyo Circle. The man was escorted from the store and could not be located when police arrived.
