New Year's Eve Homicide Victim Identified

The man killed on Dec. 31 was Elpidio Morales, Jr.

Gilroy Police have released the name of the man gunned down in Gilroy on New Year's Eve. 

At 9:30 p.m. on Dec. 31, Elpidio Morales, Jr., 51, was shot on Old Gilroy Street near Alexander Street and died en route to the hospital, police said. 

"The investigation is active and on-going," Sgt. Pedro Espinoza said in a media release. "Gilroy Police Detectives continue to investigate the motive and to determine the facts associated with this investigation."

The night of the homicide, Sgt. Chad Gallacinao said Morales was shot multiple times and was found lying in the street.

"There was a dark colored sedan which was seen rapidly fleeing the scene shortly after the shooting," Gallacinao said that night. "It is unknown if the vehicle or its occupants were involved with the homicide."
