One Suspect in Custody in Double Robbery

Gilroy Police arrest one in double robbery last night.

Gilroy Police arrested a 20-year-old Gilroy man around 10 p.m. last night, after responding to multiple calls from robbery victims within blocks of each other.

Police responded first to a 15-year-old "assault victim being treated at Saint Louise Regional Hospital for serious, but non-life threatening, injuries," wrote Sgt. Matsuhara in a press release about the police’s findings.

A second victim, a 46-year-old man, called Gilroy Police several minutes later to report being attacked by two suspects earlier in the evening at knife-point, on the 7400 block of Monterey Road near the first incident.

Police received information from security guards downtown who encountered a subject harassing and attempting to rob customers near the scene of the reported robberies on Monterey Road.

The apprehended suspect, Antonio Rodriguez, was positively identified as one the assailants involved at least one of the robberies, according to police.

Rodriguez is being held for strong arm robbery involving an injury. Gilroy detectives are actively investigating the robberies, according to Sgt. Matsuhara's press release.
