Operation Garlic Press Arrests Auto Theft Suspect

Police arrest their final auto theft suspect, Salinas resident Luis Efrain Carranza.

Operation Garlic Press arrested its final auto theft and sale suspect in Salinas Monday night.

The arrest is part of a multi-agency investigation headed by the Gilroy Police Department and in cooperation with a multi-agency detail for commercial auto-theft.          

Officials in the investigation stopped a vehicle on Sanborn Place in Salinas at 9:30 p.m. Monday.

The driver was identified as Salinas resident Luis Efrain Carranza, 27, one of the remaining outstanding suspects from Operation Garlic Press, according to Monterey County Sheriff's officials.

Carranza has an outstanding felony warrant for the selling of a stolen vehicle and auto theft. Carranza was arrested and booked into Monterey County Jail.

Carranza's bail was set at $15,000. Unless he posts bail locally, Carranza will be transferred to a jail in Santa Clara County, officials said.
