Over Two Dozen Drunken Drivers Caught in Gilroy

Since Aug. 17, Gilroy CHP and Gilroy PD have been cracking down on intoxicated drivers.

There's never a good time to drive under the influence, but Gilroy CHP and Gilroy PD have stepped up their DUI enforcement since Aug. 17 as part of a greater national Labor Day crackdown.

From Aug. 17 - 22, the two agencies combined for 25 DUI arrests, with Aug. 19 yielding the most — a combined a combined 11 arrests.

In that same six day span, 124 total arrests were made countywide, up from 105 in that period in 2011. It's no surprise that San Jose has been the biggest hotbed of DUI citations. On Aug. 19 alone, 22 were handed out in the city.

Morgan hill has been fairly quiet since the crackdown began, producing just five arrests. However, that number is bound to go up with a DUI checkpoint planted in the city on Friday night.

Check back with Patch next week to see the final DUI arrest numbers for the Labor Day Weekend crackdown.
