One of the suspects ran onto Highway 101.

Gilroy police have arrested two suspects who allegedly tried to steal a car on the 7500 block of Rosanna Street Wednesday morning, apprehending one of them on the median of Highway 101, according to Patrol-Watch Commander Daniel Castaneda.

The call reporting the theft was placed at 10:14 a.m., when police learned that the two suspects had taken the SUV while it sat outside of the owner’s home on the 7500 block of Rosanna Street, said Castaneda.

“The person left their vehicle running,” he said.

Police used the time of the theft to help plot the range of their search, and it was an officer patrolling the south part of the city who found the vehicle and apprehended the driver on the 6300 block of Chestnut Street, Castaneda said.

The second suspect in the car fled on foot. The California Highway Patrol assisted in the pursuit, ultimately taking the suspect into custody on the median of Highway 101 between Monterey and 10th streets, said Castaneda.
