Meth Operation, Ammunition Uncovered in Carmel Avenue Home

Adolfo Huerta was arrested after investigators found over a half ounce of methamphetamine, and items used for narcotics sales in his home, Thursday.

Gilroy resident Adolfo Huerta, 45, was arrested Thursday after authorities located over a half ounce of methamphetamine, packaging materials, scales, police scanners and surveillance cameras in his Carmel Avenue home.

Investigators suspected that narcotics sales were taking place at Huerta’s home, located on the 7200 block of Carmel Avenue, and entered the residence at 5:45 a.m. Once inside, investigators found items related to a methamphetamine operation, Gilroy Police Sgt. Joseph Deras wrote in a prepared statement.

Huerta, who is a felon, was arrested for six violations:

  • Being in possession of methamphetamine for the purpose of sale
  • Being a felon in possession of ammunition
  • Maintaining a location for the purposes of narcotic transactions
  • Possessing a false drug compartment
  • Possessing narcotics paraphernalia
  • Probation violation.

Investigators also found Katrice Maciel Vaca, 38, of Gilroy, inside the residence. Vaca was determined to have five outstanding warrants for her arrest and was taken into custody, but wasn't charged with any crimes related to the search warrant, Deras wrote.

The Unified Narcotics Enforcement Team (UNET) and the Gilroy Police Department’s Anti-Crime Team (ACT) conducted the investigation leading to Huerta’s detainment.

The meth operation is the second large-scale narcotic operation identified in Gilroy in about a week. Vincent Kinney, Jr. was arrested Saturday, May 26, when .

“Recently, a number of similar warrant service operations have taken place,” Deras states. “Those involved in illicit activities should be aware that we are committed to pursuing them and through the criminal justice process, holding them accountable.”
