Police Still Investigating New Year's Eve Homicide

Months after the New Year's Eve homicide in Gilroy, police are still looking for leads that could lead to an arrest.

At 9:30 p.m. on Dec. 31, Elpidio Morales, Jr., 51, was shot on Old Gilroy Street near Alexander Street and died en route to the hospital, police said. 

The night of the homicide, Sgt. Chad Gallacinao said Morales was shot multiple times and was found lying in the street.

"There was a dark colored sedan which was seen rapidly fleeing the scene shortly after the shooting," Gallacinao said that night. "It is unknown if the vehicle or its occupants were involved with the homicide."

Police sent out a nixle alert March 21 reminding the public that this violent crime still needs to be solved.
