UPDATE: Salinas Man from Fatal Crash Identified

The 47-year-old Salinas man reportedly crashed into the back of a large truck and died on impact Thursday morning.

Updated at 5:25 p.m. The 47-year-old Salinas man who died in a Highway 101 crash on Thursday has been identified as Arnie Almaguer, according to the San Benito County Sheriff/Coroner's Office.

Almaguer was driving northbound around 7 a.m. Thursday just south of state Highway 156 near Rocks Road when he collided with a large box truck, according to Cal Fire Capt. Dan Westbrook. The force of the crash killed Almaguer on impact and badly damaged both vehicles, Westbrook said. No other injuries were reported in the crash, which is being investigated by the California Highway Patrol.

The accident happened north or Rocks Road near San Juan Bautista, which is about 15 minutes south of Gilroy, according to a KSBW article. 

The driver was the only person in the vehicle, and Highway 101 has reopened in both directions, the article states.
