San Jose Teen Dies After Sunday Night Car Accident in Gilroy

CHP says alcohol was involved, and the driver, a 23-year-old from Hollister, was arrested.

A 19-year-old man from San Jose was killed Sunday night when the car he was riding in ran off the road and rolled on Ferguson Road in Gilroy.

The driver, a 23-year-old man from Hollister, was arrested on suspicion of drunken driving and transported to San Jose Regional Hospital with serious injuries, according to Officer Tiffany Lopez in the Gilroy office of the California Highway Patrol.

The accident happened at 9:49 p.m. Sunday when the 2004 Toyota was traveling northbound on Ferguson Road north of Highway 152. The car ran off the road and into a dirt embankment, where it rolled over.

The 19-year-old passenger was pronounced dead at the scene.

Lopez said it was raining at the time of the accident.

In another single-car rollover accident recently in Gilroy, a 26-year-old woman and two children, ages 4 and 6, were injured at 4:20 p.m. Friday on northbound Highway 101 near the Pacheco Pass Highway overpass.

Police say the woman may have fallen asleep while she was driving a Toyota Sienna. She and the children were transported to St. Louise Regional Hospital and then flown to another hospital.
