A 28-year-old woman was killed when her car struck a tree in Gilroy early Saturday morning, according to the California Highway Patrol.
Crystal De La Torre, of who lived most recently in Milpitas after moving from Gilroy, was driving south on U.S. Highway 101 when her Honda Civic veered off the roadway near Sixth Street at about 4:15 a.m., according to the CHP.
The vehicle struck a tree on the side of the roadway and De La Torre was killed, the CHP said. No other vehicles appeared to have been involved.
It had not been determined if drugs or alcohol were factors in the crash, which remained under investigation by the CHP.
De La Torre worked in the Campbell Union School District and was due to start her new job there on Monday, according to the Mercury News.
