Suspect Arrested for Violent Stabbing in June

A second suspect remains at large.

The Gilroy Police Department has arrested 18-year-old Nicolas Jesse Young on Saturday in connection with a stabbing that left a victim clinging to life in June.

The suspect was spotted loitering in Las Animas Park in the area of the handball courts and arrested at 2:41 p.m., police said.

Young was booked in the Santa Clara County Main Jail for assault with a deadly weapon. A possible gang connection could add to the charges for the suspect, said police.

The victim was in critical condition after two suspects stabbed him following a brawl on June 12, according to police and the Gilroy Fire Department.

Three minors were arrested after reportedly battering a witness to the incident, but the others, estimated to be six people, including the two stabbing suspects, remained at large, police said.

One of those suspected members, Young, is now in custody, police said.

Police received a report of the stabbing at 2:42 a.m. and learned that approximately nine people were involved in a fight moments earlier near the intersection of East Eighth and Monterey streets.

The two suspects reportedly broke away from the fight and stabbed the first victim, who was not involved in the brawl, on the 7100 block of Eigleberry Street, police said.

The victim suffered life-threatening injuries and was taken by air ambulance to a hospital for treatment, according to the fire department.

The second victim reportedly followed the group as they fled south on Eigleberry. Three people, including a woman and two teen boys, according to the report, attacked the witness near Ninth and Eigleberry Streets.

Police are investigating the incident as gang-related, and the weapon has not been recovered.

Limited descriptions of the suspects were available; the remaining suspect was described only as wearing dark clothes.
