Suspect in Morgan Hill Child Abduction Turns Herself In

Maribel Mejia is suspected of abducting 1-month-old Mariana Corona Vidal.

Police announced Thursday that a suspect in the abduction of 1-month-old Mariana Corona Vidal in Morgan Hill on March 31 turned herself in to police on Monday.

Maribel Mejia, 33, is suspected of stealing a car outside of the Reach Out food bank in Morgan Hill that contained the infant. Authorities recovered both the car and the infant, Mariana Corona Vidal, three hours later in Salinas after a statewide Amber Alert, according to Morgan Hill Police Department .

Mejia said she was tired of running from police and had been hiding out in Los Banos, San Jose and Stockton, according to the Morgan Hill police. She had a $120,000 warrant out for her arrest for the charges of vehicle theft, kidnapping, child endangerment and possession of stolen property.

Police are still asking for the public’s help in locating another suspect in the case, Enrique Rocha.

Rocha is believed to be driving a dark-blue 1988 Toyota Camry four door, with the license plate 2HJD721. Both rear windows are covered with tape, possibly black duct tape, police said.

Detectives tracked down footage of the car after identifying that a credit card stolen during the incident was used to buy gas on June 1.
