Teen Assaulted, Possible Gang Connection

The teen told officers he was assaulted because of his refusal to join a gang.

A 14-year-old boy was assaulted by a group of teens who could be connected to the Norteño gang, said Sgt. Chad Gallacinao of the Gilroy Police Department.

The teen was walking home around 9 p.m. on Sunday in the area of Alexander and East Sixth Street when he was approached by five males and one female who were driving a Maroon 1990 Honda Accord, according to the Gilroy Police Department's press report.

The group exited the vehicle and began assaulting the victim with their hands and feet until he became unconscious.

The victim reportedly knew the suspects because they had asked him to join their gang prior to Sunday’s assault, and was apparently beaten because of his refusal to join.

The victim regained consciousness after one hour, and was treated at a Bay Area hospital for moderate to severe injuries. He was bleeding from the mouth, and reported pain to his head, the press report stated.

If the group of teens are in fact affiliated with a gang, Gallacinao said it would be the Norteño one.

The assault is currently under investigation.
