Three Arrested In Gang Shooting

Shots fired in Gilroy apartment complex on Montabello Drive lead to arrest of three.

Three men have been arrested following a shooting at a Gilroy apartment complex, police said today.

Multiple rounds were fired just before 6 p.m. in the quad area of an apartment building on the 900 block of Montebello Drive, at a time when numerous neighbors and children were outside and in the area, Gilroy police said.

Suspects were seen leaving the area in a vehicle and were later stopped and detained at a commercial center near First Street and Wren Avenue.

Police arrested Gilroy residents Jose Lopez, 19, John Carlos Castro, 18, and one 15-year-old whose name has been withheld.

Police say they have now determined the suspects were firing at a member of a rival gang, and firearms and other evidence have been recovered.

The suspects face charges including shooting at an inhabited dwelling, participation in a gang-related crime, possession of a sawed-off shotgun, possession of a concealed firearm in a vehicle, reckless driving and driving without a license.
