Two people are dead after a three car collision near the Hollister Municipal Airport on Tuesday.
At approximately 3:20 p.m. a 24-year-old Morgan Hill man was driving a 2000 Nissan Altima north on San Felipe Road away from the airport. He failed to stop at the red light at the intersection with Highway 156 and collided with a 2002 Mercury Sable going east on 156.
After the initial collision, a car heading west was unable to stop in time and also hit the Mercury.
The driver of the Mercury, a 60-year-old male from Sonora, was pronounced dead on the scene. His passenger, a 51-year-old female, was taken to the hospital where she too succumbed to her injuries. The driver that failed the stop initially was taken to San Jose Regional Medical Center with major injuries.
According to Gilroy-Hollister CHP, drugs and alcohol are not thought to have played a part in the accident.
