Villalobos was located by the Gilroy Police Department’s Anti-Crime Team (ACT) on the 800 block of Welburn Avenue at around 4 p.m., Gallacinao said.

Upon being spotted by officers, Villalobos fled into an acquaintance’s home that he "loosely knew," and then ran out the back door in an attempt to flee. However, his attempt was in vain, as officers from the GPD, the United Narcotic Enforcement Team (UNET) and the Santa Clara County Sheriff’s Office had already barricaded off the area around the residence.

The barricade forced Villalobos to return to the residence, resulting in a six-hour standoff with Villalobos refusing to leave.

Members of the Gilroy/Morgan Hill Hostage Negotiations Team (HNT) were then called in, and attempted to negotiate Villalobos out of the house, a release from the Gilroy Police Department read.

Gallacinoa said law enforcement opted out of entering the residence because of Villalobos' "violent nature and criminal history".

After failed attempts to negotiate, the Gilroy/Morgan Hill joint SWAT team was called in to assist. Villalobos was finally persuaded to leave the residence at around 10:30 p.m., and was taken into custody without further incident.

Police conducted a search of the residence after Villalobos' arrest, and located a handgun. After verifying with the owners of the residence that the gun didn't belong to them, Villalobos was charged with an additional weapons volition, and for being a felon in possession of a handgun, Gallacinao said.

Villalobos was booked into the Santa Clara County main jail for his outstanding warrants, and for new charges of resisting arrest and weapons violations.

Gallacinoa said Villalobos' arrest is not connected to the that occurred last week.
