Trio Arrested on Suspicion of Weapon Possession

Two suspects were arrested in connection with a handgun, and a third suspect was found to be in possession of hard knuckles.

Three suspects were arrested on suspicion of weapon possession after police found a handgun, and hard knuckles in their blue 2009 Chevy during a traffic stop on Saturday, according to the Gilroy Police Department press report.

Philip Garcia, 25, Prescilla Ann Del Villar, 20, and Cristina Nicole Amarante, 22, were pulled over for a vehicle code violation around the area of Church Street and Wellburn Avenue at around 2:44 a.m.

During the traffic stop, responding officers determined that one of the suspects was in possession of a concealed handgun, although Sgt. Chad Gallacinao of the Gilroy Police Department said he couldn't release information about where or how the gun was concealed.

Gallacinao said the handgun was registered, but that he couldn't release who the gun was registered to, or specify if it was registered to one of the three suspects, reasoning that such details could sway the jury's opinion when the case goes to court.

"We try not to get into the specific facts of the case," Gallacinao said.

However, one of the female suspects along with Garcia were arrested in connection with the gun, the press report states. Garcia also had an outstanding warrant for his arrest.

The second female subject, Del Villar, was found to be in possession of hard knuckles, and also presented responding officers with a false ID in attempts of avoiding arrest.

Information regarding what kind of vehicle code violation the trio were pulled over for also couldn't be released, Gallacinao said.

Gallacinao said the incident may be gang related, and that it's been referred to their anti-crime team for further investigation.
