Two men were arrested after attempting to discard a loaded firearm and ammunition during a traffic stop Thursday afternoon in Morgan Hill, police said.

Officers arrested Isaac Luna, 23, of Morgan Hill, and Jason Gutierrez, 20, of Gilroy, on suspicion of possession of a loaded firearm, violation of probation, for being a felon in possession of ammunition and a felony warrant.

Officers initiated a vehicle stop in the 17000 block of Peak Avenue, near West Dunne Avenue, around 12:40 p.m., police said.

Police said the occupants of the vehicle exited and started walking away despite police orders to stop. Luna grabbed a bag out of his pocket as he was walking away from the vehicle and discarded it into nearby bushes, according to police.

A search of the vicinity was conducted and police found a loaded .38 caliber revolver and a bag of ammunition in the parking lot, police said. Officers detained Luna and Gutierrez. Luna later admitted flinging the firearm out of the vehicle, police said.
