Victim Sleeps While Suspect Steals Keys and a Gun

A suspect reportedly broke into an occupied room at the King's Rest Motel, 8175 Monterey St., on Wednesday, stealing car keys and a handgun while the victim was asleep, according to the Gilroy Police Department.

The unknown suspect took the gun, valued at $1,000, from the victim's vehicle after using the keys to unlock it around 11 p.m., according to police.

A number of other items were reported stolen, including a social security card, a watch, several bank cards and $120 in cash, police said.
