Wanted Felon Arrested After Police Find Bullets, Drugs In Home

Complaints from neighbors led the Gilroy PD's Anti-Crime Team to stake out the house.

A 34-year-old wanted felon was arrested on suspicion of possessing drugs and ammunition Thursday after Gilroy police observed repeated narcotic sales from his home, a police spokesman said.

Thomas Vasquez was arrested at 7 a.m. today at his residence in the 7500 block of Alexander Street in Gilroy where police served a search warrant, police spokesman Sgt. Joseph Deras said.

The Gilroy Police Department's Anti-Crime Team, a special gang and narcotics unit, had been watching Vasquez's home after numerous complaints from nearby residents about alleged illicit activity there, Deras said.

Officers of the unit allegedly observed several illegal narcotics transactions taking place at the suspect's home, including a number of alleged gang members and former narcotics offenders, Deras said.

Police used the information as probable cause to ask a judge for a warrant to search the suspect's home, Deras said.

After obtaining the search warrant from a Santa Clara County Superior Court judge, officers approached the home and were met by Vasquez and a female acquaintance of his there, Deras said.

Inside the home, police located methamphetamine in bags allegedly for sale, narcotics paraphernalia and handgun ammunition that Vasquez was prohibited from possessing because he is a convicted felon, Deras said.

Officers arrested Vasquez on suspicion of being a felon in possession of ammunition, possession of methamphetamine, violating his parole and for an outstanding warrant for his arrest in a suspected burglary in Morgan Hill, Deras said.

Police also detained the woman, who is not being identified, found at Vasquez's residence pending an investigation, Deras said.

The woman had been released at 3 a.m. Friday from county jail and had arrived at Vasquez's home shortly before officers dropped by Friday morning, Deras said.
