Another Sausage Recall for Gilroy Company

More than a ton of chorizo sausages have been recalled after food officials discovered an ingredient—wheat—missing from the labels.

Just a few weeks ago, Silva Sausage Co. of Gilroy was forced to recall about 1,000 pounds of British-style banger sausages because of misbranding and an undeclared allergen.

On Saturday, the U.S. Department of Agriculture's Food Safety and Inspection Service announced another recall for the company, this time for 2,290 pounds of chorizo sausage—specifically 5-pound vacuum packs of “NETO’S MEXICAN CHORIZO 4/1.”

"FSIS discovered the problem during a label review at the establishment," according to the statement. "The review revealed that cereal, which contained wheat, was used in the product and was inadvertently left off the product labels."

Food officials say they've received no reports of allergic reactions but said that anyone concerned about adverse health issues should contact a healthcare provider.

Consumers with questions about the recall may contact the company’s vice president, Rick Martins, at 408-293-5437.
