City Ethics Code on Table Tonight

Tonight's Open Government meeting will discuss whether to adopt citywide ethics code and accompanying programs.

Should Gilroy adopt a “city ethics code”? The question sits on the agenda of tonight’s Open Government Commission Meeting, held at 6 p.m. at the City Council Chambers, 7351 Roseanna St.

The ethics code would outline a day-to-day framework for government decision makers. It, in turn, would aim to increase public confidence in local institutions that serve them. The code would stipulate, in part, that government members disclose personal economic interests and campaign contributions.

If the code is adopted, it could result in a citywide ethics program and college internship—also to be discussed Wednesday night. The matter was brought up at December meeting but was left as unfinished business.

The council will also make its quarterly review of public records requests and appoint a chairperson to serve a one-year term.
