City Seeks Volunteers For Four Key Commissions

The vacancies are in the Library, Parks and Recreation, Building Board of Appeals and Planning commissions.

The City of Gilroy is looking for volunteers to staff four key commissions: Library, Parks and Recreation, Building Board of Appeals and Planning.

Each commission helps to advise the Gilroy City Council in key decisions, and their meetings are often the front lines for developing city policy.

The seven-member Planning Commission, focused on residential and commercial development, also has power to decide certain issues apart from the council, including conditional use permits within the city.

The Library Commission, with five members, is focused on issues related to the Gilroy Public Library.  Parks and Recreation, seven members, discusses issues of public parks, urban forestry and recreation programs.

The Building Board of Appeals meets as needed to review issues developers have with various building codes.

The deadline to apply for each position is May 31. Each will finish a term left vacant by a former commissioner, with the Planning position ending this year.

The City Council will interview applicants during its June 6 meeting.

Applications can be submitted to Shawna Freels, city clerk, at 7351 Rosanna St. Those interested can also fax their application to 408-846-0500.
