COUNCIL PREVIEW: Commending a Hero Who Risked His Life

Gilroy City Council will present an award to Robert Bentson, who ran into a burning building to save an unconscious man on New Year's Eve.

When Robert Bentson heard there might be a person inside a burning home on New Year’s Eve, he didn’t hesitate. The son of a retired Gilroy firefighter, Bentson burst into the building at the Wagon Wheel Mobile Village and rescued a man who was already badly burned.

The Gilroy City Council will present Bentson with an award commending his heroism at Monday’s regularly scheduled meeting.

The agenda also includes a vote to extend a special fee-free zone to help spur downtown growth and an update on the city’s financial performance at the end of last year.
