Council to Recommend Station Position For Gilroy's HSR

The council will recommend a potential station location after reviewing a report during Monday's meeting.

City council members are expected to choose a station location for Gilroy's High Speed Rail during Monday's meeting.

The last time council members tackled the High Speed Rail was in mid-December, when they were presented with .

Two of the four alignment options detail downtown stations—one at ground level and the second consisting of a trench-like structure resembling a freeway overpass—while the other two consist of alignments on the east side of the Gilroy outlets and Highway 101.

The station options that would be built on the east side include a grade-level station and an aerial one.

Council members should make an alignment decision following a presentation by city staff regarding the "Vision Report."

The report includes findings compiled over the last year by community members and city staff as part of the Gilroy High Speed Train Visioning Project, which was created to "Help shape high-speed rail in the city of Gilroy," according to the website.

The project also, "Presents an opportunity for the people of Gilroy to express their interests, insights and concerns about high-speed rail," the site states.

The ultimate goal of the project seems to be for city representatives and community members to work collaboratively to determine the best way to incorporate a high-speed train into the city, according to a City of Gilroy information flyer.

The meeting will take place at 6 p.m. in the council chambers, located at 7351 Rosanna Street.
