COUNCIL WRAP: New Commissioners and Garbage Gripes

Updates from the City Council's Monday meeting.

Monday’s short meeting of the Gilroy City Council most actively centered on the way that unpaid garbage bills are levied onto property owners. This creates a situation where landlords sometimes have to pay for their tenant’s garbage bill, a measure that preserves collection to protect public health but has lead to several unhappy property owners over the years.

The dais was interested in reexamining the policy, but they’ll have to wait–it won’t expire for several years. The agenda asked that the council approve a special lien to help collect the currently delinquent fees, which is in line with the current procedure.

Are you on the list? It starts on page 159 of the council's packet.
