The candidate nomination period for Gilroy’s city council and mayoral races officially opened today. Three seats on the Gilroy city council are up for grabs, along with the mayor’s seat.
Wondering how many candidates have declared their intent to run so far, and who they are? Here you go:
Who’s Running for City Council? (Three seats available, four hopefuls.)
- Cat Tucker: current mayor pro tempore, term expires in November, seeking re-election.
- : Gilroy council member, term expires in November, seeking re-election.
- Paul Kloecker: former three-term Gilroy councilman, currently serves on the Gilroy Parks and Recreation Commission with term expiring Dec. 31, 2012, filed intent to run.
- Terri Aulman: planning commissioner chair, term expires Dec. 31, 2012, filed intent to run.
Who’s Not Seeking Re-Election
- Bob Dillon: current councilman, holds third empty seat on the city council.
Who’s Running for Mayor (One seat available, three hopefuls)
- : current city of Gilroy councilman, term expires Nov. 2014, filed intent to run.
- : current city of Gilroy councilman, term expires Nov. 2014, filed intent to run.
- Don Gage: currently sits on the Santa Clara County Board of Supervisors, former mayor of Gilroy, filed intent to run.
Wondering How the Nomination Process Works?
It's fairly simple. Head over to the city clerk’s office, located at 7351 Rosanna St., between 8 a.m. and 5 p.m. Monday through Friday, to grab the nomination paperwork. The filing period runs through Aug. 10.
Potential candidates can also schedule an appointment, according to City Clerk Shawna Freels, although they’re not required. To make an appointment, contact Shawna at 408-846-0204.
