Gilroy Looks to Fill Two City Government Positions

The Planning Commission and Parks and Recreation Commission seeks to fill two voluntary positions by September 27.

Want to get your feet wet in city government? Gilroy is currently seeking to fill two positions, which go live on the city’s website Tuesday night, by October 17.

The Gilroy Parks and Recreation Commission is looking for a community member to serve the remainder of a four-year term, ending December 2014. The Committee is responsible for all matters related to public parks, urban forestry and recreation, and park and recreation planning. They meet the third Tuesday of every month at 6:30 pm. Those with more questions can contact Recreation Director Maria DeLeon at (408) 846-0274.

The Gilroy Planning Commission is also searching for someone to fill a seat, and serve the remainder of a four-year term which ends on December 2013. The committee deals with zone changes, conditional use changes and planned zoning developments, and meets the first Thursday of every month at 6:30 pm at City Hall. You can direct your questions to Community Development Director Maria deLeon at (408) 846-0467.

Both committees have a total of seven members, and the positions are “completely voluntary”, said city clerk Shawna Freels. While experience in city government will give applicants a boost, it’s not required to be selected.

The city will interview applicants for both positions on Monday, October 3 at 6 p.m., and appoint them Monday, October 17 at 6 p.m.

Interested in applying? Applications, which will be available on the city’s website Tuesday night, must be received by September 27, 2011 at 5:30 p.m.
