Government Preview: Japanese Trust Fund, Restored Sidewalks and More

Gilroy City Council will discuss local hot-button issues Monday night.

Over the course of two weeks in March, l students for the American Red Cross' efforts in Japan. At a Gilroy City Council meeting at 6 p.m. Monday, there will be a vote about whether to establish a trust fund for Gilroy's Japanese sister city of Takko-Machi.

The following are other items on the agenda, which you can download here. The meeting will be at the City Council Chambers, 7351 Rosanna St.

• Sid Sanchez, who began working with Gilroy in 1954 as a City Council member, will be honored for his service on the board of the Santa Clara Water District.

• The council will vote on approving, by motion, a City Sidewalk Rehabilitation Project. The project will improve and rehabilitate the sidewalk at various action points around the city.

• The council will vote on extending the city's Household Hazardous Waste Program, which was started last fiscal year. More than 700 households participated in the program, which provides residents the opportunity to deposit their waste at various collection spots.

• A new is expected to be completed in spring 2012. There will be a vote to allocate funding to purchase furniture.

• A vote to create a Deer Park Landscape Maintenance Community Facilities District will occur. This district would oversee services such as an irrigation system, removal of weeds and debris and plant replacement.
