Preliminary Results in From Special Election in Santa Clara County

Two parcel tax measures that were on the ballot in Santa Clara County gained the required two-thirds vote.

Residents of three Bay Area counties who voted in special elections on Tuesday appeared to have passed three out of four ballot measures relating to school districts, according to preliminary results.

Two parcel tax measures that were on the ballot in Santa Clara County -- Measures A and B -- appeared to have gained the required two-thirds vote as of Thursday afternoon, according to semi-official results.

Measure A, which would impose a parcel tax of 84 dollars on properties within the Santa Clara Unified School District for five years, passed with 72 percent of the vote, according to preliminary results.

Measure B, which would benefit the Saratoga Union School District by levying a $68 parcel tax for the next eight years, appeared to pass with 69 percent of the vote, according to the elections office.

Measure A in Contra Costa County was still too close to call as of this afternoon, according to the county elections office. The measure, which needed two-thirds approval to impose a $225 parcel tax on properties in the Moraga School District, had 64 percent of voters supporting it and 35 percent against, according to semi-official results.

In San Mateo County, redistricting Measure R appeared to have easily passed with more than 90 percent approval, according to preliminary tallies. Measure R will transfer 47 properties in the Fairmont Drive neighborhood from the Belmont-Redwood Shores Elementary School District and Sequoia Union High School District to the San Mateo-Foster City School District and the San Mateo Union High School District.
