PREVIEW: Garlic Festival Will Offer $350,000 For Park Renovations
The donation comes as part of tonight's City Council's agenda.
The amphitheater at Christmas Hill Park could get a $350,000 makeover before this year’s Garlic Festival after the Gilroy City Council votes Monday night on a donation from the festival association and Christopher Ranch’s Don Christopher.
Those renovations, which the city had to put off because of its budget constraints, include a shaded canopy “over a majority of the seating area,” new concrete seats and an irrigation system for the area’s grass, according to a letter in the council’s agenda packet from Brian Bowe, executive director of the Gilroy Garlic Festival Association.

Other agenda items include:
Approval of a consultant to study the options and impact of high-speed rail within Gilroy at a cost of $200,000; a grant from the Santa Clara Valley Transportation Authority (VTA) will cover $150,000.
