Threats, Robberies, Burglaries Reported by Gilroy Police Dept Dec. 3 to Dec. 5

Brief accounts of the incidents were released to the public on Thursday Dec. 6.

The Gilroy Police Department reported the following activity Dec. 3 through Dec. 5:

Monday Dec. 3

4:54 a.m. - Commercial burglary. Someone pried open locked doors of a business and stole an Apple Macintosh computer from a desktop and a text telephone at 100 5th St. Estimated property damage and loss, $3,450.

5:06 a.m. - The driver of a red 2007 Toyota Yaris was involved in a non-injury vehicle accident, Pacheco Pass Road.

10:03 a.m. - Stolen vehicle. A silver 2000 Honda Civic was reported stolen in an unspecified area on West 6th Street.

11:31 a.m. - A juvenile was allegedly found to be possessing marijuana at a school on Carmel Street. The juvenile was cited and released.

2:42 p.m. - Jenai Brianna Aguirre, 20, was arrested at Monterey Street and West 6th Street on suspicion of possessing a controlled substance and a counterfeit bill. 

4:15 p.m. - There was a fight at an unspecified address on Hanna Street. One person was transported to Saint Louise Regional Hospital. The other person could not be located.

6:21 p.m. - Robert Daniel Barraza, 42, was arrested at an unspecified address on Leavesley Road on suspicion of threatening to kill a co-worker.

6:22 p.m. - A hit-and-run with injury involving a bicyclist was reported on Wren Avenue. The bicyclist was struck by a vehicle, which left before police arrived. The bicyclist was transported to a hospital for further treatment. The suspect hit-and-run driver was not located.

8:38 p.m. - Serentiy Joy Jones, 21, was arrested on suspicion of robbery at an unspecified business on 1st Street. She allegedly entered the business, selected several items, went past all points of sale and was stopped by security personnel. She struggled and she was taken into custody.

Tuesday Dec. 4

12:56 a.m. - An armed robbery was reported at a store on Monterey Road. A man entered the store holding a handgun, demanded all the money from the register and several packs of cigars. The gunman left with about $600 cash and $24 worth of black-and-mild cigars, and got into a vehicle described as a possible silver 2000s 4-door Honda or BMW. The vehicle was last seen northbound on Monterey and the suspect remained at large.

12 p.m. - Shoplifting was reported at a store on Arroyo Cir. Someone took a $110 pair of New Balance men's running shoes, size 10-1/2 without paying.

12:30 p.m. - Two students at a school on Carmel Street were cited on suspicion of possessing marijuana and one on suspicion of sales on a school campus.

2:20 p.m. - A forgery was reported at an unspecified address on Delta Court.

9:56 p.m. - A vehicle owner reported a gold 1999 Mitsubishi stolen from a location on Calle Del Rey by three males. It was found abandoned on Columbine Court. The suspects left the vehicle in drive when they abandoned it, and it collided with a pillar at a residence. Damage and property loss was estimated at more than $2,800.

Wednesday Dec. 5

8:08 a.m. - A person was cited on suspicion of theft of recyclables at West 6th Street and Wren Avenue.

12:45 p.m. - An unspecified arrest warrant was served on Robert Garcia, 41, at Leavesley Road and Murray Avenue.

3:35 p.m. - A hit-and-run incident involving three vehicles was reported at East 10th Street and Alexander Street. One vehicle was described as a gray Jeep Laredo. The other two vehicles were a white 1999 Ford Crown Victoria and a silver 2007 Toyota Rav.

4:10 p.m. - An unspecified arrest warrant was served on Galy Emiliano Silva Franco, 27, at Leavesley Road and Forest Street.

4:19 p.m. - An unspecified arrest warrant was served on Marisela Rivas, 33, on Hanna Street.

7:05 p.m. - A motorist reported someone broke a window on her white 2005 Acura on Monterey Street and stole her purse. Total property damage and loss was estimated at $270.

11:18 p.m. - A male approached some people on Hanna Street and told them they needed to pay him money they owed him. He said somebody ran through their residence and took what they owed him. He threatened to kill them if they did not pay them.

11:44 p.m. - A male approached one person on Hanna Street, brandished a handgun, and threatened to shoot the victim if he did not pay what he owed the gunman. The suspect left in a yellow pickup truck and he remained at large.

The offensive comment we're discussing shows a complete lack of respect for women that permeates ourRead More culture. That this person actually thought this poor young girl had culpability for her attack is a symptom of our societies disregard for women. I'm actually glad he made the comment so we can look at and discuss the problem.

From one of the interviews I watched online, it seems that many Saratoga High students knew whatRead More happened at the party and had seen the pictures. How is it that arrests did not follow the assault and the suicide for over 6 months? Could it be that the students who knew information about the felony chose to remain silent? I hope that is not the case; we will surely find out as the details of the case are revealed in the media over the next weeks and months. In the meantime lets make sure we are teaching our kids about the responsibility of living in community and caring about others. God forbid that any of the students have to live with the knowledge that they could have prevented the suicide, or with the knowledge that they helped cover up such a heinous crime.
