Ascension Solorsano Wins National FBI Challenge for a Second Year

The national program educates students on the unique dangers of the Internet.

Special agents and staff from the FBI will be personally congratulating a group of eighth-graders at Gilroy’s next week for winning the National FBI-SOS Internet Challenge.

The group received the best cumulative score in the country during a test of their “safe online surfing” knowledge, according to an FBI press release.

Held throughout the school year, the free program provides education to different grade levels on specific Internet risks, including cyberbullying and Internet predators, the FBI said.

Judy McLeod, a teacher at the school, helped to guide the group of students as they won the coveted award for the school for a second year, according to the release.

The ceremony will take place on Tuesday at Ascension Solorsano Middle School, 7121 Grenache Way.

The program, open to both public and private school students from third to eighth grades, provides monthly training on Internet safety standards in a competitive environment. Approximately 108,000 students in 41 states have participated to date, the FBI said.
