Resource Center Helps Ensure Veteran Students Achieve Academic Success

The Veterans Resource Center at Gavilan College will offer veteran students access to services and resources developed to help ensure their academic success, and make their transition from military-to-civilian life easier.

Veteran students are spearheading and staffing a Veterans Resource Center (VRC) as a pilot project for the spring semester at Gavilan College.

The students' goal is to create a one-stop shop that will provide student veterans with essential resources, like information about the services offered at Gavilan.

Among the services set to be offered are student fellowship and mentoring. These services are essential because, as a group, veterans have experiences that create unique needs in the academic environment.

Staff and students have come together to create the resource center because colleges are experiencing a rise in veteran enrollment—which is expected to continue as the military draw-down continues—and because the college is committed to the success of veteran students.

We not only help our veterans succeed in the academic world, but we have resources to help with balancing work, family and the other responsibilities that can make it challenging to pursue an education.
