Get Out: Wine and Cheese Tasting at Solis, Hiking and more

There's a college fair at Gilroy High School Thursday, and the Gilroy Exchange Club is having it's annual tri tip and shrimp fundraising dinner on Saturday.

Looking for something to do around town this weekend? Well, look no further because Patch has done the research, and compiled a list of five fun things to do around town today and over the weekend.

CAL SOAP COLLEGE FAIR AT GILROY HIGH SCHOOL

When/Where: At the Gilroy High School student center, located on 750 West 10th Street. On Thursday, Nov. 3 from 5 to 7 p.m.

Why Go: It's a great opportunity for high schoolers to get a start on college planning. CSU’s, UC’s, community colleges, specialty schools, as well as private and independent ones will be in attendance. Students will have the chance to speak to representatives from San Jose State University, Santa Clara University, the University of California, Santa Cruz, UCLA and many more.

GILROY HISTORICAL MUSEUM OPENING THURSDAY

When/where: The museum opens Thursday, Nov. 3 from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m., located on 195 Fifth Street.

Why Go: The museum, housed in the historic 1910 Carnegie Library building, has a lot of history to offer. Learn about the historical society and check out the cool artifacts.

Price: free

ANNUAL TRI TIP & SHRIMP FUNDRAISER

When/Where: The Gilroy Exchange Club, located at 250 Old Gilroy St. On Saturday, Nov. 5 at 6:30 p.m.

Why Go: The annual event raises money for seniors, youth and the prevention of child abuse. Plus, you can't beat enjoying a fab steak and shrimp dinner that benefits a cause. For more information, contact Al at (408) 842-4619 or Erwin at (408) 472-3155

FALL WINE AND CHEESE CLASSIC AT SOLIS WINERY

When/where: At Solis Winery, located at 3920 Hecker Pass Hwy. On Saturday and Sunday from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m.

Why Go: Solis holds their wine and cheese fall classic every autumn. There will be  a selection of five Artisan cheeses from Carmel Cheese Shop that are paired with five of their lovely wines. Attendees can enjoy their wine and cheese while overlooking the vineyard. There will also be live jazz music performed by Pentimento from 12-4:30 p.m.

Price: General admission is $15 and free for club members.

GET LOST IN HENRY COE PARK

When/Where: Saturday, Nov. 5 at 8 a.m. and Sunday, Nov. 6 at 7 a.m. At the Hunting Hollow entrance of the park, located on Gilroy Hot Springs Road.

Why Go: This is an extreme day for hiker enthusiasts. There will be 62 checkpoints scattered along the rugged hills of Henry Coe Park. Participants will race to find all the check points. There will also be food, and part of the event proceeds will benefit the Team USA Orienteering and BAOC COOL programs. Participants are recommended to register for the four or eight hour divisions. 

Price: Four hour division-$65 per individual or $125 per team, eight hour division - $170 per team.
