VIDEO: Garlic Festival Kicks Off With Opening Ceremonies

Garlic Festival President Hugh Davis lights the giant garlic bulb Friday morning to mark the beginning of the three-day fiesta.

While the rest of the world was prepping for the Olympic Opening Ceremonies Friday morning, Gilroy Garlic Festival President Hugh Davis was lighting a torch of his own at Christmas Hill Park.

Davis' lighting of the giant garlic bulb torch signaled the kick-off to the 34th annual Garlic Festival.

According to CMAP.tv correspondent Jacqui Carrasco, the fire from the torch was also used to light the fire for the pyro chefs who will be cooking tasty garlic-seasoned food in gourmet alley such as scampi and calamari.
