Annual Breakfast Thursday To Highlight South County Charity Programs

In its second year, United Way's event helps to solicit support from the public.

It’s a breakfast important enough to draw the mayors of both Gilroy and Morgan Hill, but it’s hardly about the food.

United Way will host its second-annual South County United Breakfast Thursday at the Gilroy Elks Lodge No. 1567 at 2765 Hecker Pass Rd. in Gilroy. Registration begins at 7:30 a.m., with breakfast running from 8-9 a.m. Tickets are $25.

Gilroy Mayor Al Pinheiro and Morgan Hill Mayor Steve Tate will serve as the masters of ceremonies at the event. Tate serves on United Way Silicon Valley’s volunteer board of directors.

During the breakfast, attendees will learn about the aid programs that United Way operates in the South County.

“We hope interested community members will join us to find out how they can get involved with United Way's work locally to help people help themselves achieve self-sufficiency,” said Carole Leigh Hutton, president and CEO of United Way Silicon Valley, in a press release. “The recession has taken a heavy toll on South County families. We are working with our partners to help local folks make it through these hard times and become more financially stable.”

Donations help fund a number of United Way projects, including the Yes We Can Read youth program and a number of financial and health aid initiatives.
