Who the "f' cares?? The refinery can process that crude oil without creating an air emissions…Read More problem. But, believe it or not, receiving crude oil by rail is a smart move by Valero. Not all the oil is going to be from Alberta. Some is likely to be from the Permian Basin in Texas, the Bakken in North Dakota and even from the Niobrbra shale play in Colorado. With all these options so they can get the best price.

That's a great ides Michael. We moved here two years ago and have 3 kids. I'd love a nice downtown…Read More to shop at and explore with my kids! Someplace where there are family friendly places and then some upscale stuff too. I really hope they listen to what people want. Do they need people to show up, write letters, whatever to get the word out there that we want a nicer down town area?

I think a nice facelift to downtown would be great. But don't forget the mom and pops stores and…Read More restaurants. I am a gilroy native now living in the valley I miss my old hometown. I think it should be more family friendly things to attract kids as well as adults. I think od's kitchen should move to a bigger place cause in my opinion nobody should come to gilroy and not stop there for breakfast. I really do think a facelift and family friendly shopping and attractions is what downtown gilroy needs.

Gilroy has some of the best wines in Northern Cal. Solis' merlot is outstanding...! If we had an…Read More upscale winetasting room like the one in Sutter Creek, CA: http://www.suttercreekwinetasting.com/
(dark wood, leather stools, lots of brass) with an attractive, wine-knowledgeable staff, we could draw the outlet crowds into the downtown area to sample ALL the Gilroy wines after shopping; then dinner at Milias or the Old City Hall Restaurant before driving home. Then we need some cozy garlic or wine themed Bed & Breakfasts near the 6th St. bridge for romantic weekend getaways. "Mr. Smith, I have you booked in the Merlot Room". In fact, let's dress up 6th St. all the way from the outlets to downtown, including billboards at the outlets advertising our cool-future downtown businesses. And really, maybe it's Gilroy's amazing wineries that could band together and push Gilroy into the next phase of development. Let's become a desirable destination like Napa or Healdsburg. What do they have that we don't have? I'm visualizing, are you?

I think the two important structures needed in Downtown Gilroy is parking (which I heard is…Read More currently in the works) and some sort of urban park for children. These two things I believe will create better traffic for businesses & future businesses to come. I also think it would be great to have some sort of a Cultural event for families! Eateries should be well prepared for large crowds and give excellent service that will draw customers back again for more! Also what about trying to do more live music? I could see doing every 3rd Thursday of the month. Featuring a variety of different music!

Yes $750,000 per agent seems very pricey. The DOJ knows who the APPs are and where they live, seems…Read More to me they could notify local law enforcement. The local law could then confiscate the illegal weapons and or make an arrest. Save the State 24 millions bucks.
OldTimeGilroy March 9, 2013 at 10:25 am
I agree, but they're spending 2/3rds of a million bucks per new employee. Isn't that jest a tad…Read More pricey?
