Gilroy Gardens' origins can be traced back to a number of key eras: 1985 when the Circus Trees were moved to…More Gilroy; the 1970s when Michael and Claudia Bonfante sold their Nob Hill Farms supermarket chain and started building the park of their dreams; and the early 1900s, when Axel Erlandson began creating his unique trees. No matter how far back its history began, the story of Gilroy Gardens is one of love and perseverance.
It opened its doors as a family theme park in 2001 and changed ownership in 2007. Still, its integrity has been preserved to the vision of its original creators. Of course, the main attractions are the Circus Trees. However, there are also fun rides like the Banana Split, the Mushroom Swing, the Garlic Twirl, the Rainbow Gardens Boats and many more features including a water park, where kids can delight in getting wet; two stages; a playground; food courts; gift shops and a botanical garden. This is the only amusement park in Northern California that's open for the winter holidays and hosts special celebrations of light.
