   Ann has written for the <i>San Francisco Chronicle</i> and won a James Beard award for cowriting <i>The Essence of Chocolate.</i> (She didn&#39;t enjoy winning the award as much as she loved hiking through the Dominican Republic in search of rogue cacao trees.)

   She&#39;s gotten into the water with Keiko the killer whale and then written about killer whales with Jean-Michel Cousteau. Ann has co-written six cookbooks with chefs Michael Chiarello, Cat Cora, and Elizabeth Falkner and written for Chuck Williams, the founder of Williams-Sonoma. Plus Ann edited the very first Pottery Barn catalog.
