April Short, Neighbor

April is a freelance journalist in and around the Santa Cruz region. She writes regularly for Good Times Santa Cruz  and The Post in Capitola. She recently received her undergraduate degree in literature and history at the University of California, Santa Cruz (UCSC). At UCSC, April worked for over three years as an editor/writer for the university&#39;s award-winning student newspaper, City on a Hill Press. She also worked as the teaching assistant for the City on a Hill Press writers&#39; class, under the paper&#39;s staff adviser Susan Watrous.  <br>    April studied abroad for a semester in Barbados, located in the Eastern Caribbean. She is fond of travel for the characters and cultural diversity it brings into her life, and at 22 years old, has already been fortunate enough to visit over seven countries. <br>     In journalism, April&#39;s focuses are wide-ranging, from investigative news articles to arts profiles. Some of her heroes in writing and journalism include Samuel L. Clemens (Twain), Simon de Beauvoir, Lewis Carroll, Liam O&#39;Flaherty, Eduardo Galeano, John Muir and Amy Goodman.
