Woman, Child Hurt in Highway 101 Rollover Crash

The highway was briefly shut down so a medical helicopter could pick up the injured girl.





A rollover crash on southbound Highway 101 Thursday afternoon injured the Gilroy woman who was driving and a 6-year-old girl riding in the vehicle, according to the California Highway Patrol.

The woman, 57, was approaching Luchessa Avenue in her a Chevy Blazer around 3:50 p.m. when lost control of her sport utility vehicle, the CHP reported. The Blazer made an "unsafe turning movement" and rolled over several times in the center median of the highway. 

The SUV eventually stopped upside down in the median, according to the CHP. 

The girl hit her head and hurt he right wrist. CHP officers shut down the highway for about five minutes so a medical helicopter could pick up the girl and transport her to Valley Medical Center for treatment, the Highway Patrol reported.

The driver hurt her neck and was taken by ambulance to Regional Medical Center, according to the CHP.
