Thursday Breakfast Aimed at Helping Gilroy's Homeless Population

Volunteers gather to talk about ways of helping Gilroy's homeless.

Concerned because Gilroy has the county’s highest rate of homelessness, a group of volunteers has arranged a “Compassion Breakfast” Thursday at 7:30 a.m. at the Gilroy Church of Latter-day Saints. The event will bring together Gilroyans who wish to create opportunity for the city's homeless population.

Jan Bernstein Chargin, one of the volunteers, said, “Although we have some much-needed services for the homeless, including meals year-round and shelter in the armory during the coldest months, more is needed to create real opportunities for the many men, women and families on our streets, sleeping in cars and living under bridges all year long.”

The breakfast will focus on l to donate space for an emergency shelter in Gilroy.
